Muse Brain Age

A research idea, not yet a tested measure.

Muse offers Brain Age: a weekly figure, from its EEG headband, saying how many years younger or older your brain looks than you are. Short answer: estimating age from brain recordings is a real research area, with moderate accuracy in lab-grade EEG. We found no published study of Muse Brain Age itself, or showing that the number, or a change in it, says anything about your future health. Muse’s own page notes a single reading can swing by several years.

How the evidence flows

Flowchart for this page: each claim, the studies that tested it and what they found, and the grade that follows. The same studies and grades are listed in full below.

Estimating age from brain recordings is real research: in lab-grade EEG, models predicted age with moderate accuracy. We found no published study of Muse Brain Age itself, or showing that a lower brain age, or changing it, says anything about your future health. Muse’s own page says one session can swing by several years.
