Every common claim, graded by the human studies behind it.
Evidence checked 2026-10-21. Grades are calculated from the studies listed, by fixed rules.
No human trial has tested it. The EU herbal monograph lists relief of sore throat with dry cough and cold as a TRADITIONAL use — based on long-standing use, not on trials.
No human trial has tested it, and no study has measured lung function after mullein. Nothing undoes smoking damage except stopping.
One double-blind trial (171 children) used drops with six ingredients, mullein among them, so no result can be attributed to mullein alone. Not graded for mullein.
A cream, not drops or gummies. Healing scores were better than placebo on day 10 but not on days 1 or 3. One trial; not replicated.
Nobody knows, because the effect itself has never been measured for cough. Labels that promise results within days are not based on a trial. Our study measures at four weeks.
Mullein has a long history of use and few reported problems, but it has not been studied for safety in trials either. Talk to a doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a lung condition, or take other medicines. Strain teas well — the leaf’s fine hairs can irritate the throat.
