Blue scorpion venom for pain

Homeopathic, and untested for pain.

Blue Scorpion sells a homeopathic liquid made from the venom of a Cuban scorpion (Rhopalurus), labelled for pain and inflammation. Short answer: we found no study of the venom for pain in people or animals. Its research is about cancer cells in dishes and mice. And homeopathic remedies, pooled across placebo-controlled trials, have not shown a clear effect beyond placebo in the large, well-run ones. Pain that keeps you from moving is worth a doctor’s look.

What the research shows

Grades are calculated from the studies listed, by fixed rules.

  • Blue scorpion venom acts against cancer cellsLab studies only

The venom is sold in Cuba as a cancer remedy. Its research is in cancer cell lines and mice; no trial in people with cancer has been published. It is not a substitute for cancer treatment.

  • Homeopathic remedies work beyond placeboTested — no effect found

Pooling placebo-controlled trials, the apparent benefits of homeopathy came from small, weaker trials; the large, well-run ones did not show a clear effect beyond placebo. Conventional medicines, analysed the same way, did.

We found no study of the venom for pain or inflammation in people or animals — its research is about cancer cells. As a homeopathic product, the trials above are the closest evidence. “Endorsed by top athletes” and “tested by a third party” say nothing about whether it relieves pain.
