One good trial, alongside medicine.
A widely shared post says 4 grams of taurine a day for 12 weeks reduced psychotic symptoms. Short answer: that is what one double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found — in young people with a first episode of psychosis who stayed on their antipsychotic medicine. It has not been repeated in a larger trial. If you or someone you care for has psychotic symptoms, see a doctor; never stop or change psychiatric medicine without the prescriber.

One double-blind trial found it, in young people with a first episode of psychosis who took taurine alongside their antipsychotic medicine — not instead of it. Of 121 who started, 86 were analysed. A 2018 review of supplements in first-episode psychosis called it preliminary. Taurine did not improve thinking. Never stop or change psychiatric medicine without the prescriber.
