Oxytocin: the “calm hormone” as a treatment

Tested, and mostly no effect.

Healthspan offers oxytocin and advertises it for mental balance and calm, with a customer saying it worked better than raising her ADHD dose. Short answer: pooled placebo-controlled trials of oxytocin nasal spray found no significant effect on the stress hormone cortisol during stressful tasks, and no significant overall effect across 42 trials in mental disorders. We found no trial for ADHD. Do not change ADHD medicine without your prescriber.
